Proin (phenylpropanolamine, PPA) by PRN Pharmacal is used to treat urinary incontinence in dogs. It is available as 25mg, 50mg and 75mg scored chewable liver flavored tablets. Proin contains the active ingredient phenylpropanolamine, which is used to treat urinary incontinence. Generally prescribed for dogs who dribble on their beds or other places in the house due to incontinence. Works by increasing the tone of the urethral sphincter, which helps to control urine leakage. Before giving Proin, tell your veterinarian if your pet is being given digoxin, NSAIDs such as aspirin or Rimadyl, tricyclic antidepressants such as clomipramine, and beta blockers such as atenolol, or any other prescription or over the counter medications. Allergic reaction to the medication may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
